Johto Holiday Event in December 2016

Pokemon Go's last event of 2016 ran December 12, 2016 through December 29, 2016.
The Johto Holiday Update included numerous new Pokémon, including Pikachu donning a festive hat. Trainers may capture the festive Pikachu in the same way they would any other Pokémon. Niantic has announced that Pikachu with the festive hat will have a greater frequency rate than regular Pikachu. The limited-edition Pikachu was available from December 12 until December 29 at 11 a.m. PT. When you develop a Pikachu with the hat, the Raichu retains the hat.

The other new Johto Pokemon do not have an event end date, however unlike Pikachu, they cannot be caught. You must hatch them. So far, six new Johto baby Pokemon and one new evolution have been confirmed.

'Pokémon Go' is wrapping out 2016 with a massive holiday extravaganza that will go through Christmas, Hanukkah, and the first few days of the new year. Without further ado, here's everything going on in Pokémon Go, as well as the days it's going on, according to a blog post from game creator Niantic.

From the morning of December 25th, 2016 through the afternoon of January 3rd, 2017:

  • "PokéStops will award one single-use Incubator each day after your first Photo Disc spin." In other words, the second PokéStop you hit on any given day will give up a one-time-only egg incubator. Which is good, because...
  • "As you visit PokéStops during this time period, there will be a greater chance of finding Eggs that hatch Togepi, Pichu, and several other recently found Pokémon." Niantic recently added a bunch of baby Pokémon, originally from the "Pokémon Gold and Silver" Game Boy games, that can only be found by hatching. During the holidays, it'll be easier to hatch them.
  • "Special Pikachu wearing festive hats will also be staying around a bit longer!" If you're lucky, you'll be able to catch one of the limited-time Pikachu wearing a Santa hat.

From the afternoon of December 30, 2016, through the afternoon of January 8, 2017 (PST):

  • "The first partner Pokémon and their Evolutions, originally discovered in the Kanto region, are more likely to be encountered." It's going to be way easier to catch fan-favorite monsters Squirtle, Wartortle, Blastoise, Charmander, Charmeleon, Charizard, Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, and Venusaur during this period.
  • "Lure Modules will also last for 60 minutes instead of 30 minutes."
Although many believe that Pokémon Go has peaked, the game still has millions of users worldwide. This is a lovely Christmas present for Pokémon fans, and it may be enough to entice lapsed players to return to the game.
